Felt Shapes Sorting Activity (Quick Video Tutorial)

Toddlers love sorting activities! And this Felt Shapes Sorting activity is now our #1 favorite!

Sorting activities are one of the simplest ways to stimulate and engage a child so that he/she is interested, learning and having fun all the same time!

This week we focused a bit on shapes as well as colors which we have been learning and memorizing for some time now. And I wanted to come up with a simple activity that my son (2) could learn the shapes and of course sorting came to mind. Honestly it took me about 10 minutes from beggining to end, from gathering materials, tracing and cutting out the shapes. That’s it! And now, both of my kids keep going back to the tray to play around with all these felt shapes 🙂

What is my child learning?

  • Colors
  • Shapes
  • Fine motor skills (picking up the felt pieces)
  • Cognitive skills (sorting, analyzing, matching up, comparing the shapes and colors)
  • Great independent play or quiet time activity

This is an awesome little tray that can be used in a variety of ways. For instance, you can sort by shapes, sort by colors, sort by size, etc! My 4 year old gave an idea too! She started making houses out of them using a square and a triangle, which was awesome because I saw her creativity. You can also use this Felt Shapes Sorting activity if the kids need some down time, quiet time or if perhaps you need to do some housework or make a call! It’s so handy and versatile!
