This Pom-Pom Umbrella is so festive and colorful!
Don’t you just want to grab one of these adorable umbrellas and sing, “I’m dancing in the rain?” Yeah, well we may have done that! 🙂
My daughter (almost 5) loves crafts. She can come to me daily asking what is our next craft. Most times I say I’m not sure yet, but in reality I’ve got a list for her. I love crafts my self and if I have an idea in my head about a potential craft, I’ll jot it down in my journal for future reference. And this Pom-pom Umbrella has been on my “to make” crafts list for a while.
This craft is best done along with the child, as you the adult has to do the cutting, threading and hot- gluing. Unless of course you’re working with a teenager here. But I have a 2 and a 4 year old, so I handled those steps. Don’t worry though, kids are still fully participating, painting the umbrella, picking out the pom-poms for the colorful rain and best of all running around singing that little famous song.

Materials for pom-pom umbrella
(this list contains affiliate links- this just means I earn a small commission if you purchase via links below, no extra cost to you! See Full Disclosure)
- Sewing needle
- Pom-poms (small)
- Craft scissors
- Washable kids paint
- Hot glue gun + glue sticks
Start by cutting out the cardboard into an umbrella (I suggest for the adult to do this step!). Next, allow the kids to paint the umbrella in any color they want and let dry. While the umbrella is drying, make the rain. Cut long piece of thread and loop through the needle. Weave the needle through the pom-poms and spread them out (this step is for adults). We made about 4-5 pom-poms per thread and 3-4 pieces of thread. Hot glue the ready pieces of thread with pom-poms to the umbrella.
What is my child learning and improving in this craft?
- Fine motor skills (holding the paintbrush and painting the umbrella)
- Hand-eye coordination (painting inside the umbrella)
- Focus and concentration
TIP- as you weave the pom-poms, name each color and allow the child to repeat for better memorization!
